Maya glyph analysis on Horizons Magazine

The work by R. Hu, J.-M. Odobez, and D. Gatica-Perez on extraction of Maya hieroglyph strokes was covered by Horizons Magazine, the scientific magazine of the SNSF and the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences.

MAAYA project at EPFL Open Days 2016

Idiap researchers presented tools for analysis and visualization of ancient Maya hieroglyphs at the EPFL Open Days 2016 in Lausanne.

Rui Hu (postdoctoral researcher) and Gulcan Can (doctoral student) showed the MAAYA project tools to interact with ancient Maya hieroglyphs for the general public.

It is estimated that 35,000 people visited the campus during the event on November 5-6 2016.

Prof. Gatica-Perez was an invited speaker (Looking at Hieroglyphs: Computational Methods for Visual Analysis), at the yearly EMC event on December 13, 2015. The conference's theme was The Maya in a Digital World, and was organized by the Department for the Anthropology of the Americas of the University of Bonn.

Daniel Gatica-Perez (PI of the MAAYA project) co-organized a Session on Machine Learning and Pattern Recognition for Archaeological Research at the Computer Applications and Quantitative Methods in Archaeology Annual Conference (CAA) in Siena, Apr. 2015.
