Laurent NGUYEN, new Idiap research assistant
Laurent has joined Idiap as a PhD student under the supervision of Dr. Daniel Gatica-Perez.
Laurent will be working on the automatic extraction non-verbal behaviours (NVB) in small-group and dyadic face-to-face meetings, within the framework of the SONVB project. He has completed his master's degree in micro-engineering at EPFL in April 2006. The topic of his thesis was the implementation of a 3D simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) algorithm using a single camera in the context of mobile robotics. He then worked for three years as a junior scientist in an environmental science lab at EPFL where he was one of the main contributors to the development of video-based flow measurement system for hydraulic structures (sewage systems in particular).
