The Legal Affairs Office advises the Institute's management and researchers on legal matters. It supports Idiap's strategic projects and analyzes their legal compliance. It facilitates the implementation of agreements, manages litigation, participates in risk management, anticipates legislative changes, and works to raise the awareness of legal matters within the Institute.
The Legal Affairs Office's main tasks are:- Provide legal advice and support to the Institute's researchers and administrative staff;
- Negotiate and draft - or collaborate in the drafting of - contracts, collaboration agreements, and other legal documents to ensure that they appropriately reflect Idiap's missions;
- Develop and maintain Idiap's internal regulations and guidelines;
- Research and analyze legal issues in order to determine potential solutions;
- Participate in the workings of the Data and Research Ethics Committee;
- Maintain a legal monitoring brief, keeping abreast of changes in legislation - particularly in the fields of artificial intelligence, data protection, and intellectual property - and proposing necessary changes to Idiap's documentation and processes and any other aspect of the Institute's activities that falls within the Legal Affaires Office's scope.
