TDRV allows easy surfing across recordings of political sessions

All sessions of the Parliament of Valais (Grand-Conseil) are broadcasted live on local TV channel Canal 9 and also archived. Unfortunately, trying to find a specific speaker or theme was until now rather difficult. Idiap’s TDRV technology (Text Detection and Recognition in Videos) has been applied to all 2009 political sessions, and you can now search with a simple one-word request through all the available recordings. It is then easy to watch the desired part of the video.

How does it work?

1) an algorithm searches for text in all images

2) all the texts are recognized, matched with a timing and saved in a database

3) it is then simple to query into the database

4) then you choose from the results found and watch the part of the video you’ve selected
