Idiap Create Challenge 2024 - Fostering Innovation to Benefit Society

Idiap Research Institute is thrilled to announce the 13th edition of its hackathon, a highly anticipated event that facilitates the translations of ideas into prototypes. This year’s hackathon, set to take place from August 20th to 28th, 2024, has received the highest number of applications ever, and promises to be one of our most exciting and competitive yet.

The Idiap Create Challenge (ICC) provides a unique platform for Artificial Intelligence (AI) enthusiasts to transform their ideas into prototypes, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment. This year, the ICC saw a record-breaking number of applications, with over a hundred talented individuals vying for a spot in the event. After the selection process, seven teams, comprising 20 participants, were chosen to bring their innovative ideas to life. The quality and diversity of this year’s project themes are remarkable, with teams focusing on Generative AI for legal practices, minimizing food waste, assisting people with disabilities, training speech classifiers and detecting fake news.


The ICC runs for nine days, allowing participants to deep dive into their projects. The extended duration fosters a thorough development process, leading to more sophisticated prototypes. This event is a comprehensive experience designed to nurture talent and innovation. Participants will have access to AI experts and mentoring from the Idiap’s Research & Development team.


Participating in the ICC means embarking on a journey of creativity and technological development, all within the inspiring setting of the Swiss Alps. This event exemplifies Idiap's vision of "Artificial Intelligence for Society," underscoring the institute's dedication to advancing AI technology for the greater good.
