Gelareh Mohammadi awarded the EPFL PhD degree for her work on Automatic Personality Perception.

She received the EPFL diploma from her doctoral advisor (Alessandro Vinciarelli).
Her research revolves around the inference of the personality trait people attribute to unacquainted speakers. Social psychologists have shown that whenever we meet a person for the first time, we tend to attribute personality traits to him/her. The process is spontaneous, unconscious and not necessarily accurate but it still influences significantly our behavior towards others, especially when it comes to social interactions. Her thesis focuses on one aspect of the phenomenon above, namely the spontaneous attribution of personality traits to speakers we never heard before. More specifically, her PhD thesis aims at developing automatic model to infer personality traits from nonverbal vocal behaviors and analyze the importance of such cues in personality perception process.
